Halsted Middle School
59 Halsted Street, Newton, NJ 07860 973-383-7440 - (FAX) 973-383-7432 April 9, 2013 Halsted Middle School is once again sponsoring an NJ ASK Prep Breakfast for all students and their families. This year our breakfast will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2013 from 9 am to 12 pm. The New Jersey Assessment of Skills and Knowledge (NJ ASK) is the state test for students in grades 3 through 8. The NJ ASK measures student achievement in English language arts, mathematics, and science. Students will be given an opportunity to sharpen their skills while parents will be given information on the importance of the NJ ASK to their child’s academic development. For example, did you know that your child’s high school schedule will be impacted by his/her seventh grade NJ ASK score? This is a great opportunity for students, parents and staff to work together to ensure that each student performs his/her best on the state assessment, while enjoying time together.
Our goal is to involve as many students and parents as possible in this breakfast. We want to foster a sense of Halsted School Community while giving the students the chance to increase their knowledge in their personal areas of need prior to the test. The students will be broken into groups and instructed by their teachers on various skills that will be covered on the language arts, math and science portions of the NJASK. The test will be administered the week of April 29, 2013. We cordially invite parents to attend the breakfast with their children. Following the breakfast, all parents are invited to meet briefly in the library for information concerning the NJ ASK, the Common Core Curriculum and new upcoming PARCC assessments. We look forward to seeing you there. Kindly, Jennifer Reynolds Student Achievement Coordinator ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My child has permission to attend the NJ ASK breakfast on April 27, 2013 from 9:00-12:00.
